What the Milwaukee M18 2922 adds over a compact press tool
The main reason to move from a compact platform to the M18 2922 is not simply battery preference. The M18 is a standard-force press tool designed for broader fitting-system and size coverage. Milwaukee describes the 2922 as an in-line brushless press tool with ONE-KEY reporting, auto-cycle, a pre-press battery check and compatibility with more than 20 fitting systems.
Milwaukee also lists general capacity up to 4 inches, but the useful number is always the system-specific limit. A ProPress XL-C connection, a 2-inch MegaPress connection and a 1-1/8-inch ACR connection all use different attachments even though the same 2922 power tool can be part of the setup.

If you regularly work inside the compact tool envelope, an M18 is not automatically “better.” If your jobs cross into 1-1/2, 2, or larger press work, or require standard-series ring systems, the M18 platform becomes much easier to justify.
What to verify in an M18 2922 kit before buying
Milwaukee sells the 2922 in more than one configuration. Some kits are packaged with a common CTS jaw set, while application-specific kits can include ACR jaws instead. A listing that says “M18 press tool kit” therefore does not tell you whether the attachments match the work you actually do.
Check the tool number, every included jaw size, batteries, charger and case separately. If your work includes large ProPress rings, MegaPress rings or ACR sizes outside the included direct-jaw set, price the missing ring jaw or actuator before comparing the total cost of two kits.
Existing attachments matter too. If you already own an approved M18 jaw/ring ecosystem, buying the bare 2922 may be rational. If your existing attachments are M12 or RIDGID Compact, do not treat them as automatically reusable just because they press the same fitting system.
