RIDGID threading-system guide
RIDGID offers compact and full-size portable drives, the 12-R-centered Model 700, and established 300/535 stationary platforms. The key is matching the job to the correct die-head family rather than treating every RIDGID threader as one interchangeable system.
RIDGID is not one threading ecosystem
The 600-I/690-I portable drives, 700 Power Drive, 300 platform and 535 machines use different head architectures and workflows. Start by identifying which family matches the job and any die heads you already own.

The Model 300 can be purchased as a Power Drive or as a more complete threading setup. That distinction matters when comparing listings. The Power Drive is the drive/chuck platform; a Complete configuration adds the carriage, cutter, reamer, oil system, die head and stand components needed for a conventional machine workflow.
RIDGID rates the 300 Power Drive for 1/8–2 inch pipe directly, with larger capacities available through Models 141 and 161 geared threaders. It is also widely used as a drive for RIDGID roll groovers, which makes it more than a single-purpose threading machine.

The 535 family is built around a high-clearance carriage, integrated cutter/reamer/oiling workflow and multiple machine-head options. Current RIDGID documentation lists the 811A quick-opening, 815A self-opening and 816/817 semi-automatic families among supported heads.
The current 535 machine directly threads 1/8–2 inch pipe. Larger sizes use geared threaders rather than an oversized ordinary die head. The 535A adds automatic-chuck variants, so a listing described simply as “535” should be checked for the exact chuck, motor and included die-head configuration.
The Model 700 is a heavy-duty handheld Power Drive, not a stationary threading machine. RIDGID rates it for 1/8–2 inch pipe and explicitly identifies 12-R as the direct die-head family. That makes it particularly relevant to contractors who already own 12-R heads.
RIDGID also publishes adapters for several older die-head families. The 772 adapter (catalog 42610), for example, is specified for 11-R/R-200 heads through 1-1/4 inches. This is a good example of why “fits the same brand” is not enough: some heads require a specific adapter and size ceiling.
RIDGID's portable and stationary products are often discussed together, but the die-head interfaces should stay separate in your planning. The 600-I/690-I use 11-R heads, the 700 is centered on 12-R, and the 300/535 machine workflows use Universal-style machine heads such as 811A/815A.
Replacement dies add another layer. A die set can be compatible with multiple heads without making the heads themselves interchangeable. RIDGID's Universal machine dies, for example, fit a broad list of Universal die heads, while portable 12-R sets belong to a different head architecture.

The 300 is a stationary/jobsite Power Drive platform that can become a complete threading machine with carriage, cutter, reamer, oiler and machine die head. The 700 is a heavy-duty handheld Power Drive designed around 12-R die heads. They solve different workflow problems even though both can thread common pipe sizes.
Both are established stationary platforms for direct threading through 2 inches, but the 535 is a more integrated threading-machine family with several chuck and die-head configurations. The 300 remains especially attractive as a modular Power Drive platform that also supports grooving and portable/jobsite configurations.
