Electric pipe threading covers far more than one product type. A battery threader, a corded hand-held Power Drive and a stationary threading machine can all cut pipe threads, but they solve different workflow problems and use different accessory ecosystems.

Battery technology has made full-size 2-inch cordless threading practical, but the die-head interface still controls what accessories can be reused. Milwaukee's 2874 explicitly accepts RIDGID 12-R and Reed R12+ heads. DEWALT documents RIDGID 12-R-style compatibility for the DCE700. Milwaukee's smaller 2870 instead uses a compact head family and is rated through 1-1/4 inches.
That means a contractor with a large 12-R inventory may see very different economics than a contractor starting from zero. Use the Die & Die Head Finder before treating battery platform as the deciding factor.
A corded hand-held drive avoids battery charging and can be attractive for sustained threading where reliable site power is available. RIDGID's 700 is centered on 12-R heads, while 600-I and 690-I use 11-R heads. Those head-family distinctions can outweigh the power-source difference if the shop already owns a matched set of heads and dies.
The corded drive also remains portable compared with a full threading machine. It can move to the pipe, but it does not provide the same integrated work-holding, cutter, reamer and oil-tray workflow as a stationary machine.
If the job repeatedly starts with cut lengths of pipe and requires a production sequence of cut → ream → thread, a dedicated machine can reduce handling steps. The RIDGID 535 integrates chucking, carriage, cutter, reamer and oil handling. A RIDGID 300 Complete builds a similar workflow around the modular 300 Power Drive.
Large-pipe threading can also require geared threaders. That capacity should be evaluated as a machine-plus-accessory system rather than a simple motor-power comparison.

Electric threader comparisons often collapse into voltage, current draw or battery size, but actual productivity includes work holding, pipe preparation, oil delivery, support setup and head changes. A stationary machine can outperform a nominally powerful hand-held tool in repetitive fabrication because the workpiece stays in one controlled station. A cordless threader can outperform that machine on service work because it eliminates transporting installed pipe to a bench that cannot be used.
For that reason, the best electric threader is usually the one that removes the largest workflow constraint while still matching the required size, thread standard and die-head family.
